Becoming The First Investment Minister Under The Jokowi Era, Bahlil Targets Elon Musk's Tesla To Enter The Country

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has officially inaugurated Bahlil Lahadalia as Minister of Investment. Bahlil admits that he already has a target in the short term. One of them is about the plan to hook the electric car company owned by Elon Musk, to invest in Indonesia.

Bahlil said, there are two targets to be pursued, namely external and internal. For external targets, his party is conducting various communications with investors. One of the investors who focus on this communication is Tesla.

"The external target must be related to the investment realization target. We are focusing on communicating, including Tesla and others," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, April 28.

Furthermore, Bahlil said, this year there will be two or three new investors entering Indonesia. However, unfortunately Bahlil did not want to mention who the investor was.

"There are others, but cannot be mentioned yet. But rest assured that this year there are two or three new items. I will convey them in due time," he said.

For internal targets, said Bahlil, he will consolidate within a hundred days due to structural changes. Second, his party focuses on the development of Online Single Submission (OSS), because June must be on going.

"We will also consolidate the improvement of human resources (human resources) in the investment ministry," he said.

Changing the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) to become the Ministry did not change the target given by Jokowi, namely inviting inward investment of IDR 900 trillion. Even so, Bahlil admitted that he was ready to realize this target.

"The investment target is Rp. 856 trillion from Bappenas but the President (targets) Rp. 900 trillion. As a soldier, I will do it. Later in 2022 we will evaluate it, see the development of COVID-19 and the implementation of regulations," he said.

Previously, Bahlil asked all Indonesians to pray for Tesla to invest in the country. According to the plan, the electric car company from the United States (US) is reportedly interested in investing in the Energy Storage System (ESS) sector or energy storage systems or 'power banks'.

"Prayers are still a ray of hope and optimism for Tesla to enter Indonesia," Bahlil said in a virtual press conference, Monday, April 26.
