JAKARTA - It is said that the Tanah Abang shopping center area will continue to serve buying and selling activities until the end of this year's Ramadan.

Tanah Abang Market Promotion Manager Blok A Hery Supriatna said the last operational activity will fall on Tuesday, 11 May 2021 until 14.00 WIB.

"After that, from May 12 to May 18, everything was closed, there were no transaction activities," he told VOI, Wednesday, April 28.

Hery added that the closure was part of a management policy that provided opportunities for the community to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr.

"Later it will open again on May 19, 2021, and activities will return to normal," he said.

Hery is grateful that during this year's Ramadan momentum the government has allowed commercial activities even in pandemic conditions. This is in contrast to the conditions in 2020.

"Last year we closed completely from fasting to Eid. Alhamdulillah, now we can open it while implementing strict health protocols, "he said.

In Hery's note, the trade stretch has been felt in the last few months. However, the intensity and volume of transactions continued to decline compared to previous years.

"There has been a good movement since this pandemic occurred, but it is still far from being compared to normal conditions before the pandemic," he explained.

He hopes that the current difficult situation will end soon so that economic and social activities can return to normal.

Based on information compiled by the editorial staff, the combined turnover of traders in the Tanah Abang area in one day can reach Rp200 billion. This value is estimated to increase up to IDR 250 billion to IDR 300 billion during the momentum of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr.

Although this value is an estimate before the pandemic, still the largest textile trade center in Southeast Asia has an important role in driving economic activity.

"We hope, both from managers and traders, that this year's Ramadan can be a better turning point. Hopefully the pandemic can end soon and transaction activities in the market can fully revive, "concluded Hery.
