JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the rise of illegal smuggling of gold and mining that brought losses to Indonesia.

In fact, as a country with the 6th largest gold reserves in the world, Indonesia wants to process its own wealth.

"There are still some irregularities, there are illegal mining everywhere, there are smuggling mas abroad without going through the right process," Prabowo said in his remarks in Gresik, Monday, March 17.

Prabowo ensured that he would take firm steps and investigate illegal acts that harm Indonesia in terms of revenue from this country. In addition to threatening the industry, this illegal activity will also threaten jobs for thousands of people who depend on gold and precious metal commodities.

"We must continue to eradicate all irregularities, smuggling, smuggling outside Indonesia, harming our acceptance," Prabowo continued.

For this reason, Prabowo appreciated the establishment of a precious metal refining plant by PT Freeport Indonesia so that it contributed greatly to the Indonesian economy.

"In my opinion, they are also examples of responsible, good corporations, and now they prove it by making downstream in Indonesia," said Prabowo.
