6 Waskita Karya Garapan Dam Enters National Strategic Projects

JAKARTA - The government has set 77 National Strategic Projects (PSN) included in the 2025 to 2029 National Medium-Term Development Draft (RPJMN). A total of 16 PSN of them are dam projects, of which six dams are Waskita Karya's project.

The determination of 77 PSNs is contained in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025 concerning the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2025-2029.

Waskita Karya Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita said currently PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk is currently working on six PSNs, namely Jragung Dam, Bener, Mbay, Tiga Dihaji, Karanganongko, and Cibeet.

Ermy said the construction of the Jragung Dam is almost complete, the realization is currently above 87 percent. Meanwhile, the progress of the construction of the Bener Dam is 64.25 percent.

Then, along with Ermy, the Mbay Dam has more than 60 percent, to be precise at 74.86 percent. Meanwhile, the progress of the Tiga Dihaji Dam, Karangongko, and Cibeet is below 50 percent.

Ermy said Waskita Karya felt proud to be part of the development of PSN and encouraged the government's food self-sufficiency program through dam construction.

"We are committed to completing all these projects on time and quality so that they can be immediately used and utilized by the community," said Ermy in an official statement, Monday, March 10.

Ermy explained that the dam is a multifunctional project that has many positive impacts. The Jragung Dam in Central Java, for example, functions to supply water to the Irrigation Area (DI) covering an area of 4,528 hectares (ha) in Demak and Grobogan Regencies.

"The dam is estimated to increase agricultural production by up to three times, thus supporting food security," he said.

Then, continued Ermy, the dam with a capacity of 90 million cubic meters (m3) is also able to support energy security, because it has the potential to become a hydro Micro Power Plant (PLMTH) with a capacity of 1,400 kilowatts (kw).

The Rp3 trillion dam can also be developed into an object of tourism and agro-tourism. That way, the impact can be felt by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) around the location, while improving the local economy.

Apart from Jragung, Bener Dam, which is located in Central Java, also has a number of benefits. It is even predicted to be the highest dam in Indonesia, because it reaches 169 meters high.

Not only was it able to drain water to irrigation areas covering an area of 15,519 ha, the dam worth Rp2.06 trillion was also able to accommodate water up to 92 million cubic meters (m3).

Bener Dam, he continued, can supply raw water for household, city and industrial purposes of 1,500 liters per second to Purworejo Regency, Kebumen, Kulon Progo, including YIA Airport.

Ermy said this project helped prevent flooding around the dam. This is because it is able to reduce the flood discharge from 583.94 m3 per second to 178 m3 per second or 70 percent of the flood discharge per 25 years (Q25).

The Cibeet Dam was also built to overcome flooding. It is hoped that with this project, flood-prone points in West Java, especially in Bekasi and Karawang Regencies, can be reduced," said Ermy.

Furthermore, Ermy said the dam, which cost up to Rp5.5 trillion, was able to reduce flooding by up to 6,080 ha. All dam projects carried out by Waskita not only function to increase agricultural production, but also provide multiplier effects for the community.

For example, continued Ermy, the Tiga Dihaji Dam in South Sumatra and the Mbay Dam in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Both have the potential to increase economic activity and encourage the birth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), so that they can be developed into the tourism sector which will invite many visitors. Even the Tiga Dihaji Dam can be used as a water sports arena," he explained.

According to Ermy, the Karangnongko Dam in Central Java can also be used as a tourism location. Even this project worth IDR 1.26 trillion is able to provide a fishery cultivation place as well as a plant and animal conservation site.

"As a state-owned construction company that has been experienced for more than 64 years building various projects including water infrastructure, Waskita Karya realizes the importance of building dams for the community. So in the future, the Company is ready to build more dams, according to government directives," said Ermy.
