JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) emphasized that it will continue to develop natural gas infrastructure to strengthen downstream oil and gas and national energy security. This step is in line with the government's strategy to reduce dependence on energy imports and increase added value in the country.

"We continue to build transmission pipes and distribution of natural gas for connectivity between regions and increase access to natural gas for new users. With the potential for large demand in the Central and Eastern parts of Indonesia, one of which is from a smelter, the beyond pipeline infrastructure is also developed," explained PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development Rosa Permata Sari, Friday, March 7.

He continued, one form of beyond pipeline infrastructure is the LNG Recipient terminal and LNG Hub to bring LNG from a new field in eastern Indonesia. This infrastructure also plays a role in increasing LNG storage, so that it can increase gas supply resilience.

We mapped the canvassing market and there is an industrial area that is very possible to be supplied with LNG in the central part of Indonesia. PGN is ready to collaborate with the industry in providing effective and efficient energy," said Rosa.

Not only adding economic value in the industry, PGN fully supports reducing LPG imports through the construction of household gas networks (jargas). In 2025, PGN will build 200,000 jargas Home Connections (SR). Macrosically, the use of natural gas through gas has the potential to reduce LPG imports to 100,000 metric tons and save energy subsidies of up to IDR 672 billion per 1 million connections.

"We are also intensifying the use of palm oil waste or POME to be converted into Biomethane. The location of the Biomethane project is in Sumatra, where biomethane, which is equivalent to natural gas, will be injected into the existing pipeline network. This project is an opportunity for future green energy growth," concluded Rosa.
