JAKARTA - PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (PGN Gagas) and PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (Pertamina Drilling), are collaborating to implement dual fuel technology in oil drilling operations.
This collaboration is an effort to cost optimization, as well as reduce carbon emissions through the use of gas fuel (BBG) on engines that produce electricity at oil drilling platforms.
PGN President Director Gagas Santiaji Gunawan explained that PGN Gagas and Pertamina Drilling implemented the Dynamic Gas Blending System (DGBS) technology in drilling operations.
"So far, oil and gas drilling operations only rely on fuel oil. With the application of DGBS technology, oil drilling operations can be used, so that operations become more flexible and energy efficient," he said, Thursday, March 6.
This step is expected to increase the efficiency of fuel consumption while reducing carbon emissions by 30 percent.
He added that the efficiency and reduction of carbon emissions in this drilling process will make a positive contribution to efforts to fulfill national energy. Evaluation is carried out continuously to ensure that this technology scheme can be implemented in other operational areas, so that the positive impact of cost optimization is widespread.
"We support the Government's target of achieving Net Zero Emission through the use of natural gas for projects within the Pertamina Group. The efficiency and reduction of carbon emissions in the drilling process will also make a positive contribution to the national energy transition," explained Santiaji.
Pertamina Drilling President Director, Avep Disasmita explained, Pertamina Drilling continues to develop an emission reduction initiative program to maximize its role in achieving national carbon emission reduction, one of which is DGBS technology.

"Pertamina Drilling is committed to not only focusing on business aspects, but also on environmental sustainability," continued Avep.
The first DGBS technology was implemented on Friday, February 28, 2025 in Mundu, Indramayu, West Java. This implementation was attended directly by the Director of Operations and Commercials of PGN Gagas Baskara Agung Wibawa and the Director of Operations of Pertamina Drilling Aziz Muslim.
The intense communication between PGN Gagas and PDSI has been established since February 2023. PGN Gagas has prepared several infrastructures for this synergy.
"We are preparing a gas supply taken from the Purwakarta SPBG. Furthermore, the gas is processed as engine fuel in drilling operations," said Baskara.
