The Minister Of Trade Said That The Cause Of The Price Of Cayenne Pepper Skyrocketed At The Beginning Of Ramadan 2025

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso revealed that the cause of the price of red cayenne pepper skyrocketed in early Ramadan 2025.

Budi said that the large number of rain this March in a number of areas in the country caused the supply of red cayenne pepper to decrease.

As a result, the price of red cayenne pepper soared in the market.

"Regarding red chilies (which are high in price), in principle, is (caused) reduced supply due to a lot of rain this month," Budi said at a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission VI of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, March 3.

Based on data reported by Budi in the Raket, the price of red cayenne pepper has increased by 23.23 percent month to month (mtm), which is now priced at around Rp. 81,700 per kilogram.

"Only the red cayenne pepper commodity has increased by 23.23 percent month to month to Rp81,700 per kilogram," he said.

Regarding the increase in the price of red cayenne pepper, Budi said, his party had communicated with chili production centers, such as those in Magelang (Central Java), East Java and Sulawesi.

"We have also communicated with chili production centers such as in Magelang, East Java and also Sulawesi," said Budi.

Even so, Budi said, the prices of basic necessities throughout Indonesia tend to be relatively stable ahead of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr 2025.

However, Budi said, the government remains aware of several commodities that have historically experienced price spikes ahead of the National Religious Holidays (HBKN), such as rice, beef, chicken meat, chicken eggs and garlic.

"The government remains wary of commodities that have historically experienced inflation during religious holidays (Fast-Lebaran) such as rice, beef, chicken meat, chicken eggs and garlic," he concluded.
