The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Collaborates With The Ministry Of Environment For Energy Resilience Cooperation

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency have agreed on cooperation in the field of environmental protection and management as well as ESDM. This collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and the Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

"Indeed, this is a form of our cooperation, a concern of how we can collaborate, because future development leads to green energy. Both green energy, green industry, good environmental governance. This is indeed a consensus focus," said Bahlil, quoted Thursday, February 27.

Bahlil also appreciated the cooperation carried out, especially as an effort to achieve President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita target, one of which is increasing oil and gas lifting. Collaboration is also needed to be able to accelerate the bureaucracy for the achievement of targets in the ESDM sector and the environment.

"Actually, this bureaucracy can be fast, if there is chemistry. If there is no chemistry, it's not finished until the chicken grows teeth. The goal is clarity, want to be fast but it must be clear. With this MoU, I thank Mr. Hanif and his whole team," said Bahlil.

Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq explained that this collaboration aims to ensure more environmentally friendly energy management and support climate change mitigation efforts.

Hanif also revealed that the Ministry of Environment has provided a special route to accelerate environmental approval in the provision of national energy. In addition, good synergy in the management of mineral and coal mines is considered important so that mining activities remain in line with environmental conservation efforts.

"We have provided special routes for activities in the context of providing energy at this national level. So we have ordered to be able to follow environmental procedures to accelerate all aspects related to this environmental agreement. Then related to the implementation of mineral and coal mines, there may be several things that we must synergize again, considering that this activity has massively contributed to increasing the sustainability of natural resources itself," said Hanif.

Cooperation with the Ministry of Environment is carried out to organize and accelerate licensing in the field of the environment and ESDM to realize energy resilience and self-sufficiency. For the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, cooperation with the Ministry of Environment can support the optimization of tasks and functions, including related to environmental licensing for entrepreneurship in the ESDM sub-sector.

This collaboration also plays a role in continuing downstreaming for increasing domestic added value. Another important point is the alignment and simplification of regulations and the implementation of the achievement of the energy mix and the Net Zero Emission (NZE) program. Later this Memorandum of Understanding will be followed up in the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) which covers all ESDM sub-sectors.

The scope agreed in this memorandum of understanding is:

a. exchange and utilization of data and/or information;

b. structuring and accelerating licensing in the field of the environment and the field of energy and mineral resources in order to realize energy resilience and self-sufficiency and continue downstreaming for increased value in the country;

c. synergy in preventing pollution and/or environmental damage in the context of monitoring the implementation of environmental management and monitoring;

d. synergy of law enforcement in the field of the environment and energy and mineral resources;

e. alignment/simplification of regulations to accelerate the implementation of tasks and functions in the fields of the environment and energy and mineral resources;

f. implementation of the achievement of the energy mix and the Net Zero Emission program based on the Nationally Determined Contribution;

g. increased competence of human resources;

h. utilization of facilities and infrastructure; and

i. other activities agreed by the parties are in accordance with the intent and purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding.
