JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman asked Perum Bulog to absorb 2.1 million tons of rice equivalent to the Indonesian Rice and Rice Milling Entrepreneurs Association (Perpadi) during the main harvest season.
"Today we agree to absorb unhulled rice, the equivalent of rice is 2.1 million tons. We agree with all mills throughout Indonesia," Amran said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 10.
Amran said that Bulog's total assignment to absorb grain/rice is 3 million tons of rice equivalent.
According to him, the remaining 900 tons will be absorbed from farmers to fulfill the assignment quota.
"So only 900 (900 tons) will be held directly by Bulog. Direct Bulog, so a total of 3 million (tons)," he said.
As a form of supervision of the absorption of 3 million tons of rice equivalent, the government is also collaborating with the TNI and Polri.
This cooperation has been stated in a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Police.
"We have signed the MoU with the National Police Chief. We are collaborating, so there are no irregularities in the field. Fertilizer is not only rice, we do all the guards," said Amran.
