With Cofiring, PLN IP Press 921,000 Tons Of CO2 In 2024

PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) managed to reduce carbon emissions by 921,119 tons of CO2 throughout 2024 through a coal primary energy mixing program at steam power plants (PLTU) with biomass.

PLN Indonesia Power President Director Edwin Nugraha Putra said the implementation of cofiring in 2024 was recorded to be able to produce green energy of 814 GWh or the equivalent of reducing carbon emissions by 921,119 tons of CO2.

"The cofiring program has made a real contribution to the supply of environmentally friendly energy in Indonesia," he said, quoting Antara.

Edwin revealed that throughout 2024 PLN Indonesia Power succeeded in utilizing 793,060 tons of biomass, consisting of wood pellets, garbage, palm shells, sawdust, rice husks, and paper money concoction waste as a mixture of PLTU coal cofiring.

"PLN IP is always committed to reducing the use of coal by utilizing biomass for cofiring at PLTU," he said.

According to Edwin, as the largest subholding generation company in Southeast Asia, PLN IP continues to strive to support PLN in accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia to help the government achieve the net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060.

"This is a big step for corporations to support the national energy transition and create a cleaner and more sustainable future," he said.

He continued that PLN Indonesia Power also continues to develop technological innovations to reduce emissions in Indonesia, so that the electricity sector can play a major role in reducing carbon emissions.

"PLN Indonesia Power is open to collaborating with various parties to develop technology that can reduce carbon emissions," said Edwin.
