JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia ensured that the construction of new power plants will be worked on by the private sector.
This is the government's plan to develop a 2025-2034 Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) with a design to increase the power generation capacity by 71 GW.
"We encourage new developed plants to be given a large portion to the private sector, IPP," said Bahlil, quoted on Wednesday, January 22.
Of the 71 GWs, he said, the private sector will get 60 percent of the total power plants contained in the RUPTL.
"The 71 GWs with the largest of approximately 60 percent will be handed over to the private sector," continued Bahlil.
Although most of the portions were handed over to IPP, Bahlil ensured that the government would carry out strict selection so that only the best IPP could work on this big project.
"But credible private sectors, private ones that are in line with the government, are not private ones who make additional movements outside of what the government is doing," he said.
In the future, Bahlil said that the government together with PT PLN (Persero) will add a transmission network of 48,000 kms to support the addition of 71 GW of power plants.

In addition, the construction of a transmission network will also support the use of renewable energy sourced from natural resources, to be able to reach the needs of the community spread across various locations.
"Now we really have a wealth of natural resources for solar, water, wind and other power plants. But our problem now Mr. President is that the network that was previously installed was not designed to pick up places where we built new renewable energy. Therefore, we encourage to build a network in the future of approximately 8,000 km," said Bahlil.
