PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported that the number of long-distance and local train tickets sold for the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays had reached 2,924,387 as of Sunday, December 29, 2024.

"Based on the latest data today, Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 06.00 WIB, the total long-distance and local train tickets sold during the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year holidays have reached 2,924,387 tickets," said KAI Vice President Public Relations, Anne Purba, as quoted by ANTARA.

Anne explained that during this holiday, KAI provided seating capacity of 3,572,588 seats. Of the tickets that have been sold, 2,433,704 are for long-distance trains, which reach 88 percent of the total seating capacity available, namely 2,770,864 tickets. Meanwhile, local train ticket sales reached 490,683 tickets, or about 61 percent of the total capacity provided as many as 801,724 seats.

Anne also explained that medium and long-distance train tickets can be booked up to D-45 before departure. Meanwhile, local train tickets are available for H-30 bookings and certain trains can only be ordered D-7 before departure.

During the period 19 December 2024 to 5 January 2025, KAI Group has provided a total of 44,754,280 seats. This figure covers the capacity of 3,572,588 KAI passengers, 35,407,300 KAI Commuter passengers, 4,142,520 Jabodebek LRT passengers, 588,304 South Sumatra LRT passengers, 7,416 KAI Wisata passengers, 487,728 KAI airport passengers, 29,160 Makassar-Parepare train passengers, and 519,264 KCIC passengers.

Furthermore, Anne explained that KAI Group operates 40,782 train trips during this period. The details of the trip include 7,328 long and medium-distance train trips, 23,204 KAI Commuter trips, 1,872 KAI airport trips, 5,598 Jabodebek LRT trips, 1,772 South Sumatra LRT trips, 36 KAI tours, 108 Makassar-Parepare train trips, and 864 KCIC-run speed trains.

"Overall, KAI Group has served 13,562,674 passengers on the islands of Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi during this Christmas and New Year's transportation period," added Anne.

Anne emphasized that the number of ticket sales was still increasing because the booking process was still ongoing. He appealed to the public to immediately book tickets and plan trips well, considering that several of their favorite routes had been sold out.

"The flow of departures and arrivals during the Christmas and New Year holidays has been observed to be crowded. Some of the trains that have become favorites have even recorded occupancy exceeding 100 percent, such as Airlangga Train, Joglosemarkerto Train, Sritanjung Train, Blambangan Express train, Pariaman Express train, Rajabasa train, Putri Deli train, Matamaja train, Logawa train, and Bangunkarta train," said Anne, while mentioning that there are many other trains that have increased occupancy, especially in Java and Sumatra.
