JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has opened its voice regarding the latest developments regarding new investor candidates for PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia and the cancellation of the plan to merge with PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Syariah Tbk.
OJK Banking Supervision Chief Executive Dian Ediana Rae said that until now there has been no written request to the OJK regarding the plan of a new investor who will become a shareholder of Bank Muamalat.
"In this case, the OJK will evaluate and process according to applicable regulations if there is a submission of the application to the OJK," he said in a written statement, Tuesday, December 24.
Dian said that OJK always opens opportunities for new investors in the context of consolidation to develop the Islamic banking industry so that Islamic banks can be formed on a larger scale, so that they can be more competitive and compete in a healthy manner.
According to Dian, potential investors must have adequate financial capacity to strengthen Bank Muamalat's capital.
"In realizing this, of course, adequate financial capacity from new potential investors is needed to support strong capital by taking into account good governance in accordance with applicable regulations," he explained.
Meanwhile, when asked about the cancellation of the Muamalat merger plan with BTN Syariah, Dian said that the decision was entirely in the hands of the management of Bank Muamalat and related parties.
