Reaching 98.52 Percent of Progression, Jlantah Dam in Karanganyar Ready to be Inaugurated in January 2025

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) reported that the physical progress of the Jlantah Dam in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, has reached 98.52 percent and is targeted for completion by the end of December 2024.

Deputy Minister of PU, Diana Kusumastuti, instructed that the completion of the construction of the Jlantah Dam be carried out carefully while still paying attention to aspects of quality and safety.

"Hopefully this dam can be inaugurated in January 2025," said Diana in a written statement, Saturday, December 21, 2024.

The construction work of this dam was carried out by contractors PT Waskita Karya (Persero) and PT Adhi Karya KSO with a contract value of IDR 1 trillion.

The Jlantah Dam is designed with a height of 70 meters, a peak length of 404 meters, a peak width of 12 meters, and a peak elevation of 690 meters. With a reservoir area of ​​50.45 hectares (ha), this dam can accommodate up to 10.97 million cubic meters of water sourced from the Jlantah and Puru Rivers.

Once completed, the Jlantah Dam will have the benefit of supplying irrigation water for Karanganyar Regency covering an area of ​​1,494 hectares, consisting of 806 hectares of existing irrigation areas (IP increase of 172 percent to 272 percent) and 688 ha of new irrigation (IP 272 percent).

This water infrastructure also functions to provide raw water of 150 liters per second for Jumapolo, Jumantono, and Jatipuro Districts in Karanganyar Regency.

In addition, the Jlantah Dam can reduce flooding by 70.33 cubic meters per second or 51.26 percent of the flood discharge of a 50-year return period. There is also the potential for a Microhydro Power Plant (PLTMH) of 0.625 MW and tourism potential.

"After the dam construction is complete, I ask that it be continued immediately with the provision of an irrigation network so that the community can immediately feel the benefits," said Diana.
