Welcoming Christmas And New Year's Holidays, The Ministry Of Transportation Transfers 49 UPPKBs To Rest Areas

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) temporarily converts 49 Motor Vehicle Weighing Implementing Units (UPPKB) or weight bridges into rest areas during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 periods (Nataru).

The Director of Road Transportation Infrastructure of the Ministry of Transportation, Toni Tauladan, said that this step was taken to support the policies listed in the Joint Decree that imposes operational restrictions on the transportation of goods in several areas.

"As a follow-up to the restriction policy, the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation temporarily converts UPPKB or weight bridges into rest areas for road users on roads or areas that are subject to restrictions on goods transportation," he said in an official statement, Friday, December 13.

Toni said the government imposed restrictions on the operation of freight transportation on toll roads and non-toll roads in North Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, and Bali.

This decision is in accordance with what is stated in the Joint Decree (SKB) of the Director General of Land Transportation, the Director General of Sea Transportation, the Head of the Traffic Corps of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Director General of Highways Regulation and Crossing during the 2024 Christmas Transportation Period and the 2025 New Year Number: KP-DRJD 6944 of 2024.

"A total of 49 UPPKBs that will be temporarily closed are in line with the mandate of a Joint Decree that imposes operational restrictions on the transportation of goods in certain areas," he said.

For this reason, he continued, UPPKB affected by this restriction will be temporarily converted as a place of rest for the community starting December 20, 2024 at 00.00 local time until January 3 at 24.00 local time.

"Meanwhile, UPPKB, which is located other than in the area, will continue to operate properly," said Toni.

Toni also said that the provision of this rest area was carried out in collaboration with the cooperation unit for the extension of the Directorate General of Land Transportation in the regions, namely the Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD).

Later, continued Toni, each of these resting places will be provided with worship facilities, public toilet facilities, health facilities such as first aid and medical personnel assistance.

Then, adequate lighting within the UPPKB area, other complementary facilities such as banners or banners, carpets or mats, and mantles or umbrellas to anticipate rainy conditions.

"We hope that this service can be utilized as well as possible by road users who go home or travel during the year-end holidays so that people can rest for a while and don't force them to drive when their bodies feel tired," he said.
