Medco E&P Continues To Innovate Tofill Affordable And Sustainable Energy

JAKARTA - PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MedcoEnergi) through the Medco E&P Indonesia oil and gas exploration and production business unit, together with SKK Migas, continues to strive to meet domestic energy needs by prioritizing the aspects of affordability, reliability, and sustainability. In addition, the Company also continues to innovate in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in various activities.

As one of the leading national private oil and gas companies in Indonesia as well as Southeast Asia, Medco E&P continues to actively develop oil and gas projects to increase production. On the other hand, MedcoEnergi through one of its subsidiaries, PT Medco Power Indonesia (Medco Power) has also expanded its focus through the development of clean and renewable energy power plants such as solar power and geothermal.

The company also prioritizes reducing GRK emissions through energy efficiency, utilizing renewable energy in operating activities, and conducting Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) studies. This was conveyed at the National Media Meeting, November 30-1 December 2024 in Jakarta.

The activity with the theme Energy for the Future: Affordable, Reliable, and Sustainable was attended by dozens of journalists representing national media and also attended by speakers, namely the Head of the SKK Migas Program and Communication Division Hudi D. Suryodipuro, Director & Chief Administrative Officer of MedcoEnergi Amri Siahaan, and Chief Financial Officer Medco Power Myrta Utami.

In his presentation, Amri Siahaan emphasized the importance of operational efficiency and technology development to meet national energy needs.

"We continue to strive to increase production by using appropriate technology and supporting energy transitions by optimizing the use of fossil fuels that are more environmentally friendly, reducing emissions, and exploring low-carbon technologies such as CCS, in order to support the sustainability and growth of the national economy," he said.

Meanwhile, Hudi D. Suryodipuro emphasized that SKK Migas and the Cooperation Contract Contractor Company (KKKS) provide full support for the energy security program and are committed to continuing to contribute to the availability of affordable, reliable and sustainable energy, as well as ensuring the success of the energy transition. For this reason, synergy between media personnel together with KKKS and SKK Migas is needed to continue educating the public about the important role of the upstream oil and gas industry for Indonesia's future energy.

"Concurrent news can encourage smooth investment in the upstream oil and gas industry and ensure smooth production, so that we can continue to work and contribute to national energy security," said Hudi.

At the same event, Myrta Utami added, Medco Power focused on increasing access to stable environmentally friendly energy, as part of a solution to reduce dependence on fossil energy.

The opportunity for renewable energy development in Indonesia is still very large. Medco Power contributes by providing low-carbon energy through various new development projects, such as the first stage of Geothermal Ijen (35 MW), East Bali PLTS (25 MWp), and energy conservation at the ELB Batam PLTGU into a combined cycle power plant (CCPP) with an additional capacity of 39 MW, explained Myrta.
