JAKARTA - KAI Logistics managed to record an increase in container transport volume by 14 percent compared to the same period in 2023. As of October 2024, KAI Logistik managed to transport more than 1.8 tons of containers.
KAI Logistics Operations Director, Heri Siswanto, explained that as a subsidiary of KAI, KAI Logistics continues to strengthen its position in the national logistics industry, including in container transportation services served through KALOG Plus.
"As of October 2024, KAI Logistics managed to transport 1,892,430 tons of containers, an increase of 14 percent compared to the same period last year which recorded a volume of 1,655,748 tons," he said in an official statement, in Jakarta, Friday, November 15.
Heri said this achievement indicates that rail transportation modes are increasingly trusted by business actors as an environmentally friendly logistics solution.
Furthermore, Heri added that the train mode offers much greener and more reliable benefits for business actors, so that this is one of the important consideration points to determine the type of transportation in the logistics supply chain.
The awareness and commitment of business actors in choosing rail transportation is a step in realizing the concept of green logistics. And this commitment also contributes to promoting the train mode as a sustainable transportation," he said.
In line with the commitment of green logistics, KAI Logistics will continue to innovate in providing optimal services and providing more value for the competitiveness of freight trains.
As a concrete step, since September 11, 2024, KAI Logistics has increased the transport capacity for the Klari route, Karawang to Semarang and Surabaya. This capacity increased from 20 flat carriages (40 TEUs) to 30 flat carriages (60 TEUs) to anticipate and meet the demand for container transport services.

With this capacity, a series of trains are capable of transporting the equivalent of 60 trucks with a capacity of 20 tons. The transfer of loads from road to train not only plays a role in reducing carbon emissions but also minimizes road damage and optimizes road infrastructure lifetime which has a positive impact on the environment and safety of road users.
To optimize container train services, KAI Logistics through the KALOG Plus segment has also implemented various strategies, such as providing container transport services in strategic locations adjacent to ports and industrial estates and facilitating business actors in multimodal shipments.
Another innovation is the application of RFID technology to more than 2,000 container units that allow more accurate and real-time monitoring and provide added value for customers in ensuring logistical reliability and security.
"Through this strategic step, the Company is optimistic that it can maintain and increase performance volume until the end of the year," he said.
