Dear Pak Prabowo, A Total Of 7.47 Million Indonesians As Of August 2024 Are Still Unemployed

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that in August 2024 there were 7.47 million unemployed or equivalent to the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) of 4.91 percent or a decrease of 0.41 percentage points when compared to August 2023 of 5.32 percent.

Plt. Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said this figure was lower when compared to the same period in the previous year, even lower if we compare it with the TPT before the Covid-19 pandemic where in August 2019 it reached 5.23 percent.

"The decline in the open unemployment rate compared to last August this happened to both men and women, and occurred in urban and rural areas," he told reporters at his office, Tuesday, November 5.

Amalia added that the working-age population as of August 2024 was recorded at 215.37 or an increase of 2.78 million people compared to August 2023.

According to Amalia, the workforce reached 152.11 million people or an increase of 4.40 million people and not the workforce reached 63.26 million people or 1.62 million people lower.

"Then from the workforce as many as 144.64 million people worked, and the number of people working increased by 4.79 million people compared to August 2023," he explained.

If detailed, the working population consists of full workers as many as 98.45 million people or an increase of 2.06 million people.

Then there were 34.63 million part-time workers or an increase of 0.51 million people, and 11.56 million unemployed people or an increase of 2.22 million people.

In addition, Amalia conveyed that the absorption of labor in business fields increased when compared to August 2023, there were three business fields with the highest number of workers, namely agriculture, trade, and management industry.

"In the last 1 year, the three business fields also absorb the most workers, namely around 1.31 million, 0.78 million, and 0.66 million workers," he said.
