IPhone 16 Still Illegal In Indonesia, Minister Of Industry Agus: We Have Not Issued A Circular Permit

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that iPhone 16 producer Apple Inc still has not received a domestic component-level certificate (TKDN) as a condition to be able to sell its newest products in Indonesia.

Agus said that until now his party is still waiting for the realization of Apple's investment commitment of IDR 1.71 trillion.

As for what has been realized, it is currently IDR 1.48 trillion.

"If there is an iPhone 16 that enters Indonesia and can operate, I can tell you it is illegal. Report it to us because we have not issued a distribution permit," Agus said at the Ministry of Industry's office, Tuesday, October 22.

Moreover, Agus emphasized that his party had not issued an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) permit for the iPhone 16.

This means that the iPhone 16 product currently operating is an illegal product.

"Only three places can issue IMEI, namely we (Ministry of Industry), Customs and Excise with Kominfo," he said.

According to Agus, the IMEI issued by Kominfo is only for services for the benefit of diplomats. Apart from the three institutions, the operation of the product is questionable.

"We have not issued a distribution permit. And what I said, they still have to realize the commitment they have agreed upon between us and them. So, it must be illegal, surely the IMEI will not get out of our way," he said.

Meanwhile, based on the Regulation of the Minister of Industry (Permenperin) Number 29 of 2017 concerning Provisions and Procedures for Calculating Domestic Component Values, Cellular Phone Products, Handheld Computers, and Tablet Computers, the government provides easy schemes to achieve TKDN requirements, the first is the manufacture of domestic products that are considered the most ideal.

Second, the application scheme, they create applications domestically. Third, the domestic innovation scheme.

Agus said, of the three schemes, Apple as the producer of the iPhone chose the third scheme, namely innovation.
