Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said the Indrapura-Kisaran Section II Toll Road which was just inaugurated by President Joko Widodo would support logistics transportation to Kuala Tanjung Port.

"We welcome the Trans Sumatra Toll Road, especially the Indrapura-Kisaran which will facilitate the flow of logistics from and to the Kuala Tanjung Port," he said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 18.

He stated that the improvement in port performance was important because the Indrapura-Kisaran Toll Road would facilitate logistics routes and speed up delivery travel times.

This toll road will also increase the flow of goods in and out at Kuala Tanjung Port, thus supporting the efficiency of logistics operations as a whole.

"With the toll road, it will facilitate logistics lanes, shorten travel times, and increase the flow of goods in and out of Kuala Tanjung Port," he said.

Kuala Tanjung Port, located in Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, has a 500x60 m pier, 2.8 km long trestle for four trucks with a width of 18.5 meters.

The location of Kuala Tanjung Port is quite strategic in the Malacca Strait, which is one of the main trade routes in the world.

"This port is expected to be a transportation port, which is visited by large ships from a number of countries. This port has also been integrated with the railway line to the Sei Mangkei SEZ so that it can further improve the smooth distribution of logistics," he said.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Rachman Arief Dienaputra inaugurated the Indrapura-Kisaran section II (Fifty-Kisaran) toll road and Bayung Lencir Toll Road to Tempino Section III (Jambi Province), in Asahan Regency, North Sumatra, Wednesday (16/10).

The President said that the Indrapura-Kisaran Toll Road was built in 2018, with an investment of Rp6.32 trillion. The 47.75 km toll road consists of two sections, namely Section I (Indrapura 'Five Pulang) for 15.6 km and Section II (Fifty Kisaran) for 32.15 km.

The Bayung Lencir Toll Road to Tempino Section III, which is located in Jambi Province, was built 34 km long, spending a budget of IDR 5.6 trillion.

The President hopes that the existence of toll roads can accelerate the mobility of people and goods and accelerate the delivery and distribution of logistics.

Thus, each region will be able to compete with regions in other countries, considering that competition between countries is currently getting tighter.

"This will be a competitiveness and will grow new economic growth points," said the Head of State.
