JAKARTA - President Director of PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) Tri Andayani stated that his party needed ships that could carry many passengers as well as be able to carry logistics to meet the needs of the community.

"To make this happen, we are in the stage of determining consultant criteria for the construction of new ships that will replace the old Pelni ships," said Tri Andyani in Balikpapan, quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 10.

The consultants needed by his party must be able to escort the ship's design to translate the needs of transporting passengers and logistics into designs as desired by Pelni.

He stated that consultants will work throughout the remainder of the end of 2024 to 2025 with the stages of developing concepts and designs, to the details of design and design (detaile engineering design or DED) that can be completed.

Then in 2025 it is hoped that the construction of a new ship can be started, including the certainty of how long the ship will last, because it depends on the design made.

"Pelni also assumes that the cost of making one ship from the planning stage to the first voyage reaches Rp1.6 trillion," he said.

He stated that if you look at Pelni's current fleet, then the new ships that will come will at least be able to carry no less than 2,000 passengers.

"For that, of course, we will coordinate a lot with the Ministry of Transportation, including coordination with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN)," he said.

Currently, Pelni has also made a list containing which ships must be replaced immediately because their condition is old.

According to Andayani, the priority to be replaced is 12 ships that have been operating for more than 30 years, starting from KM Umsini, KM Lawit, and KM Kelimutu which have sailed the sea and ports in the archipelago since the 1980s.

"Likewise, the ship that oversees the Balikpapan Port, namely KM Lambelu, has been included in the second phase of the rejuvenation plan," he explained.

Tri Andayani's presence to Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan, was to inaugurate the Pelni Balikpapan Branch office building on Wednesday (9/10), after the renovation was completed.

Meanwhile, Head of Pelni Balikpapan Branch, Djasman, said that in this new building, his party repaired, including waiting rooms, counters, to additional air conditioning for services and comfort for passengers.
