BPS Records Deflation Of 0.12 Percent In September 2024

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that monthly deflation occurred in September 2024 which was recorded at 0.12 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (mom) or higher when compared to August 2024 of 0.03 percent.

Plt. The Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said that the deflation in September 2024 was deeper than in August 2024.

"There was a decline in the consumer price index from 106.06 in August 2024 to 105.93 in September 2024," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 1.

Amalia said that on an annual basis or year on year (yoy) inflation in September 2024 was 1.84 percent. Meanwhile, inflation in the calendar year or year to date (ytd) is 0.74 percent.

"Deflation in September 2024 is deeper than in August 2024 and is the fifth deflation in 2024 on a monthly basis," he said.

According to Amalia, monthly deflation in September 2024 was mainly driven by inflation in the food, beverage and tobacco expenditure group. The group in September 2024 recorded a deflation of 0.59 percent with a deflation of 0.17 percent.

Meanwhile, there are commodities that contribute to inflation, including fresh fish and powdered coffee with a share of inflation of 0.02 percent each.

Then the tuition fees for academics or colleges and air transportation rates as well as machine kretek cigarettes with an inflationary contribution of 0.01 percent each.
