PT Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang (KITB) has again shown its commitment as the leading green industry center in Indonesia by holding a groundbreaking event for one of its leading tenants, SUG Solar, Southeast Asia's largest photovoltaic (PV) producer. This factory was built on 41.32 hectares of land with a total investment of 500 million US dollars, and is projected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.

This monumental event was attended by a number of important figures, including the Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment, Nurul Ichwan, PJ Regent Batang, Lani Dwi Rejeki, General Counsel SUG Solar, Michael Eden, SUG Director of Solar Manufacturing, Antonius Weno, and President Director of PT Batang Integrated Industrial Zone, Ngurah Wirawan.

The Solar SUG plant at KITB will be one of the largest PV manufacturing in Southeast Asia with a vertical integration capacity of 5GW for ingots, wafers, solar cells, and modules. In the first phase, a 5GW-capacity solar cell production facility will be built and a 3GW capacity solar module will be built. The project is also expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, have a significant positive impact on the local economy, and improve labor skills in the PV technology sector.

This factory has a strategic role in the global supply chain of SUG Solar. The solar cell production line in Batang will supply vertically to the SUG module factory in Houston, Texas, USA, ensuring full transparency in the solar module component supply chain. SUG Solar also plans to cooperate with various suppliers of PV components such as wafers, ingots, box junction boxes, frames, and EVA films to build manufacturing facilities in Indonesia.

According to the Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment, Nurul Ichwan, the construction of this factory is clear evidence of Indonesia's commitment to supporting investments that are oriented towards renewable energy and green industry.

"The Solar SEG will play an important role in encouraging the development of the clean energy sector in Indonesia, as well as increasing the competitiveness of Batang as the main investment destination," he said, in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday, October 1.

General Counsel SUG Solar, Michael Eden, also expressed his pride in collaborating with PT KITB.

"We chose the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone as a strategic location to expand our operations in Southeast Asia. We believe that this facility will strengthen the position of the Solar SEG as a leader in the global PV industry and contribute to the clean energy transition in the region," he explained.

This project is not only an important milestone for the Solar SEG, but is also a major step in creating the largest PV industry in Southeast Asia.

"The presence of the Solar SeG at KITB is a tangible manifestation of our vision to build a sustainable, intelligent, and environmentally friendly industrial area. We believe that this project will be the driving force for the transformation of the green industry in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region," said KITB President Director, Ngurah Wirawan.

The Solar SUG factory in KITB is not only a symbol of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and leading multinational companies, but also emphasizes the position of KITB as a center of innovation and sustainability for the future of the green industry.
