Trade Minister Zulhas: Unsuitable Steel SNI Can Make Buildings Goyang

CIKARANG UTARA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan revealed the danger of using steel that is not in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for construction of buildings and roads.

He said using steel not according to standards would affect the quality of the construction. In fact, he said that if it is used to build toll roads, it will shake the foundation.

This was conveyed by the man who is familiarly called Zulhas in the exposure to the supervision of steel products in North Cikarang, Bekasi. The illegal import task force managed to secure 11,000 tons of elbow steel without SNI documents.

"Of course this is dangerous for users, this is for construction materials. If you build this toll road, you can shake the toll road for two weeks, sir," he said in an exposure to the results of supervision of steel products in North Cikarang, Bekasi, Thursday, September 26.

According to Zulhas, in addition to having to pocket SNI, this elbow steel product must also have a Goods Registration Number (NPB). This is because products that do not comply with this standard are dangerous for consumers.

Moreover, continued Zulhas, the shape is similar to the official SNI goods so that many consumers do not understand it.

"So it is very important that our consumers are protected. Don't let it happen because consumers can't measure that they don't understand, they just use it after the building collapses, there must be findings, findings are examined by the police, people go to prison. Even though this does not meet the requirements, "he explained.

Previously, it was reported that the Task Force for Supervision of Certain Goods Subjected to the Import Commercial Administration, led by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, managed to secure illegal elbow steel worth Rp11 billion in the North Cikarang area, Bekasi, West Java.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said that at a factory in the North Cikarang area, there were 11,000 tons of elbow steel that did not have a permit.

"The number is 11 thousand tons, so not a few, 11 thousand tons means 11 million kilos (grams), a lot. The value is around Rp. 11 billion," he said in an exposure to the results of supervision of steel products in North Cikarang, Bekasi, Thursday, September 26.

He said the findings of the work of the Task Force for Supervision of Certain Goods Worn by the Import Commercial Administration will be destroyed in the near future. The goal is to protect consumers from the circulation of goods that are not according to standards.

"We will take this administrative action later to be destroyed," he explained.
