JAKARTA - The government is looking for various ways to encourage Kertajati Airport, Majalengka, West Java to function optimally. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) requested that the hajj and umrah embarkation points for all residents of West Java and eastern Central Java be diverted to Kertajati Airport.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya disclosed Jokowi's directive after a closed closed meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, March 29.

"The President has directed that at least Umrah and Hajj for all residents of West Java and eastern Central Java, we will concentrate on Kertajati," said the Minister of Transportation, Budi.

In addition, at the meeting it was also reported that the construction of the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road would be completed in December 2021. The toll road will be an access from Bandung to Kertajati Airport.

"Kertajati as an airport will be complete because the Cisumdawu toll road from Bandung to Kertajati will be completed in December 2021. This means that the movement of passengers in Kertajati will be better after December 2021," he explained.

Meanwhile, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said that so far Kertajati Airport has not been functioning optimally because access to the airport is still not available properly.

Ridwan Kamil, who is familiarly called Kang Emil, said he was optimistic that with the Cisumdawu toll road, Kertajati Airport would be able to function optimally.

"Today's Kertajati Airport is not functioning optimally because Cisumdawu access, which is the toll road from Bandung to the airport, has not been completed. However, the Ministry of PUPR said earlier by the Minister, thank God, God willing, pray that December 2021 will connect," said Kang Emil.
