JAKARTA PT Kareta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has completed the installation of the first phase of the escalator at Pasar Senen Station. The excavator has officially started operating from September 1, 2024.

Jakarta's Daop 1 Public Relations Manager, Ixfan Hendriwintoko, said the construction work for the escalator began on May 6, 2024 and was completed on August 31, 2024.

He said the escalator was installed at underpass gate 2 towards lanes 3 and 4 of Long Distance Trains (KAJJ) as well as underpasses for arrival of KAJJ or departure / arrival of KRL from lane 6.

Furthermore, he said the average Pasar Senen Station serves 8,000 to 10,000 passengers per day under normal conditions. This number increased to 11,000 to 15,000 passengers on weekends.

In fact, he continued, it could reach more than 20,000 passengers per day during the school holidays and Eid. Therefore, he said the existence of this escalator would greatly make it easier for train users.

"With the operation of this first phase of the escalator, it is hoped that passenger services at Pasar Senen Station, both for KAJJ and KRL, will be faster and more comfortable," he said in an official statement, Monday, September 2.

Ixfan said, after the first phase is complete, it will be continued with the second and third stages.

"Installation of the second phase of the escalator will start from September 2 to October 13, 2024, with two escalators on platform 4," he explained.

Meanwhile, continued Ixfan, the third phase of the construction of the escalator at Pasar Senen Station is planned to take place from October 14 to November 24, 2024.
