Ministry Of Education And Culture's Budget Ceiling 2025 Down, MPR Deputy Lestari Says This

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Lestari Moerdijat said the government's commitment to carrying out the constitutional mandate to educate the nation's life must be stronger by increasing the quality of national education.

"Efforts to improve the quality of national education must, among other things, also be reflected in the allocation of budgets that are really focused on the education sector," said Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Lestari Moerdijat, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, September 1.

In a Working Meeting between Commission X DPR RI and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) last Thursday, it was revealed that the Ministry of Education and Culture's budget ceiling in 2025 was set at IDR 83.19 trillion or a lower IDR 15.7 trillion when compared to the 2024 budget ceiling.

In fact, the education budget in the 2025 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget Draft (RAPBN) is claimed to increase to IDR 722.6 trillion.

This figure is greater than the 2024 State Budget of IDR 665 trillion.

According to Lestari, the government's commitment to seriously improve the quality of national education must be questioned.

The ministry, which is given the responsibility to manage education, said Rerie, Lestari's nickname, was even given a smaller budget allocation.

On the other hand, he added, ministries whose responsibilities are not in the education sector have even received additional allocations of funds to manage education.

Rerie, who is also a legislator from the Central Java electoral district II, really hopes that national education management will be handled by people who have the right competence so that we are able to realize the ideals of the founding fathers of the nation as stated in the constitution to educate the nation's life.

The member of the High Council of the NasDem Party encourages the upcoming government to be able to be more serious and focus on increasing commitment to educate the nation's life through the development of a better national education sector.
