Sandiaga Uno Says That Tourists Spend Money In Indonesia An Average Of IDR 23.1 Million Per Visit

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno revealed the average expenditure of foreign tourists (tourists) during traveling in Indonesia in 2024. The expenditure reached 1,500 US dollars or around Rp. 23.1 million per visit with an exchange rate of Rp. 15,459 per US dollar.

"That achievement is about 50 percent higher than the period before the COVID-19 pandemic," Sandiaga said quoting Antara.

He explained that the increase in foreign tourist spending was achieved through the focus of 3S development, namely serenity, spirituality and sustainability (calmness, spirituality and sustainability).

"In the past, we focused on other 3S, namely sun, sea and sand," he added.

Regarding the number of foreign tourist visits, Sandiaga estimates that as of August there will be 13 million foreign tourists visiting Indonesia.

There is also an average length of stay for foreign tourists in Indonesia as of May 2024 for 7.51 nights or lower than the period in May 2023 which reached 7.87 nights.

The government has a target for foreign tourist visits in Indonesia by 2024 to reach 17 million people, of which seven million are expected to be donated through Bali.

To encourage Indonesian tourism, he explained the communication strategy in tourism marketing in 2024-2025, namely touching the millennial generation and generation Z tourist markets.

In addition, workers who can carry out mobility (remote workers), young families, travelers and communities with high spending include retirees.

"Especially Generation Z, they are familiar with geography, young adult families who are looking for the first experience in Indonesia, not only in Bali but also five other super priority ones such as Labuan Bajo, Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika and Likupang," he said.

On the other hand, the government is also targeting an increase in Indonesia's tourism index ranking, which is currently in 22nd position in the world, to increase compared to the previous position in 32nd position.
