JAKARTA - Indonesia targets the implementation of a circular economy in the period 2025 to 2045. This concept has been integrated into the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) as one of the main strategies to achieve a green economy in Indonesia.

The circular economy is a model that uses a systemic approach to minimize the use of resources, extend the life of products, and return the remaining production and consumption into the value chain. One of the priority sectors in implementing the circular economy is electronics, including the development of battery-based electric vehicles (KBLBB). This electric vehicle is expected to be able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced by the transportation sector, which is one of the main contributors to climate change.

One of the initiatives that support this target is the introduction of a micromobility system as an alternative to transportation to reduce congestion and carbon emissions (CO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). After nearly two years of operation in Indonesia, Beam Mobility, Asia Pacific's largest micro-mobility company, recorded an increase in users, particularly for the new Beam Solo service. As of August 2024, Beam Solo subscribers increased by 10X, starting from February 2024.

Beam Solo is a micromobility service with a flexible scheme that allows users to rent a Beam fleet with weekly or monthly subscription options. The service is designed to provide maximum convenience and flexibility for users, allowing them to access more environmentally friendly means of transportation as needed.

There has been a significant increase in the number of users of Beam Solo from December 2023 to August 2024, with the most striking spike occurring in January reaching 200 percent. The increase was also seen in the following months, namely February (50 percent), March (16.67 percent), and April (57.14 percent).

A sharp spike occurred in July with an increase of 98.37 percent, and in August, the figure continued to rise to 24.59 percent. This data shows a consistent upward trend, despite fluctuations in several months.

Ricky Sjofyan, Country Lead Beam Mobility Indonesia, stated that the spike in the last 6 months has been heavily influenced by public enthusiasm for the Beam Mobility service, especially Beam Solo, which has continued to increase since it was first introduced in December last year.

"This user growth further strengthens the commitment of the Indonesian Mobility Beam to meet commuter needs on daily trips. Currently, we have provided 381 special fleet units for this service and plan to continue developing our services in the future. Unlike conventional services that require payment every time using the Beam fleet, with the Solo Beam, users can bring the fleet directly to their homes," he said, in a written statement, Tuesday, August 27.

Ricky added that the increasing awareness of the Indonesian people of the importance of changing their daily lifestyle also plays a very important role in this matter.

"As described by increasing public interest in using environmentally friendly public transportation modes such as those provided by Beam Mobility, so that this can support the government's efforts to achieve the circular economic target," he concluded.
