IKN VVIP Airport Pacu Runway Project Targeted To Be Completed In Early September 2024

JAKARTA - The government continues to accelerate the completion of the VVIP Airport project in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan.

Related to this, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets that the completion of the 2,200-meter (m) VKN VVIP Airport runway or runway will be completed in early September 2024.

This was conveyed by the Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono when checking projects at IKN with the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi, recently.

"The target will be in early September to 2,000 meters. The terminal is finished, the apron is now finished. It's just a taxiway later," Basuki said as quoted from a video upload on the official Instagram of the Ministry of PUPR @kemenpupr, quoted Monday, August 26.

According to Basuki, his party will continue to carry out weather modifications to accelerate the runway completion target from 2,200 m to September 2024.

"For that, God willing, the weather will continue to support it. We are doing TMC (Technology of Weather Modification) to be able to (fill the runway) of 2,200 meters," he said.

Previously, the trial runway or runway of IKN VVIP Airport in East Kalimantan went smoothly and smoothly on Sunday, August 25, 2024. The trial process for taking off and landing at IKN Airport, East Kalimantan, was carried out using a King Air type 200 PK CAO calibration aircraft.

This trial was witnessed directly by the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi together with the Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono.

"What we are doing now is a kind of proving flight because what is made is not only a runway, but its airways," said Minister of Transportation Budi in an official statement, Sunday, August 25.

For your information, the proving flight is an operational test process carried out to ensure flight readiness on new flight routes.

Budi also said that IKN VVIP Airport had been designed so as not to have problems with airports in Balikpapan and Samarinda.

"Everything has been designed so as not to conflict with airports in Balikpapan and Samarinda. So when used at a dense frequency, there will be no conflict in the airspace," explained Budi.

"After this trial, a number of other assessments related to flight safety and security will be continued," he added.
