Ministry Of Manpower Handles 3,156 Cases Of Layoffs As Of August 2024

The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) explained that it had provided assistance to 3,156 cases of industrial relations disputes with the majority related to layoffs (PHK).

"3,156 cases of dispute until early August 2024. Of the 3,156 cases, disputes due to layoffs are dominated," said the Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security for Manpower (PHI and Social Security) of the Ministry of Manpower, Indah Anggoro Putri when reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 23.

Specifically for disputes related to layoffs, the Director General of PHI and Jamsos said, there were 2,143 cases handled by the Ministry of Manpower so far, or about 70 percent of the complaints of disputes received by his party this year.

He explained that most of the disputes included several issues including the absence of an agreement between employers and workers related to severance pay or even severance pay not paid.

The number of dispute cases reported occurred when the number of layoffs, according to data from the Ministry of Manpower, had reached 45,762 cases as of August 23, 2024. The majority of layoffs occurred in Central Java, Banten and West Java.

This number shows an increase compared to the same period last year, with Indah Anggoro Putri saying there were around 5,000 cases of layoffs increased compared to August 2023.

Several factors that cause layoffs include the inability to compete in the current situation, after the company's condition worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, there are factors including geopolitical situations, policies related to certain products and changes in consumer lifestyles.

The Ministry of Manpower also continues to monitor the situation, both carried out by the central government and reports from the Manpower Office.

"We always monitor both directly and from the Manpower Office that this layoff decision is the final decision," he said.
