JAKARTA - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk or BSI (BRIS) distributed financing to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector amounting to IDR 47.72 trillion until June 2024. This achievement increased by 14.54 percent on an annual basis (year on year/yoy).
BSI's macroprudential inclusive financing ratio (RPIM) also rose to Rp88.81 trillion or 34.61 percent, exceeding the regulator's target of 30 percent by the end of 2024.
"MSMEs are the backbone of the Indonesian economy. We at BSI continue to strive to open market access and financing for MSMEs, as well as provide the necessary assistance so that this sector can continue to develop and advance to class," said BSI President Director Hery Gunardi quoting Antara.
BSI noted that most MSME financing or around 80 percent was channeled to trade and retail clusters including the food, fashion, handicraft and agricultural sectors.
BSI also ensures that access to Islamic financing can be reached through outlet networks spread over more than 1,000 points throughout Indonesia.
Through the BSI MSME Center, the sharia bank has also distributed financing of IDR 39.08 billion to fostered MSMEs until June 2024. This financing, noted BSI, is focused on resilient, strong, and sustainable businesses, with the aim that MSMEs can develop their business in a modern and digitalized manner and are even able to penetrate the global market.
For information, the BSI MSME Center is a forum for MSME players to get training, guidance, and business assistance. Hery explained that the presence of MSME Centers in various regions is part of BSI's efforts to capture and increase the potential of new MSMEs in order to increase business capacity and capabilities.
Currently, BSI has MSME Centers spread across four major cities including Aceh, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar. According to BSI, the number of MSME Centers will continue to be added.
The MSME Center in Makassar was recently inaugurated by the company, namely at the end of July 2024. According to Hery, the presence of the Makassar MSME Center is BSI's effort to be able to capture and find new MSME potentials in eastern Indonesia. Moreover, the Makassar Region BSI has a very wide coverage, namely the entire island of Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.
"MSME Center is an incubator for MSME players, provides training, coaching, and business assistance, and helps them obtain business legality and halal certification. We will continue to add this number of MSME Centers as an empowerment initiative in the future," said Hery.

The BSI MSME portal is designed to help MSME players improve the quality of local products in order to compete in the global market. Meanwhile, Digital Salam Portal makes it easier for the public to apply for micro-financing digitally.
To expand market access and MSME business networks, BSI organizes various events such as the BSI MSME Festival and the BSI International Expo. In addition, BSI is also developing the BSI Entrepreneur Talenta (TWB) and Aceh Muslimpreneur (AMP) programs to increase the capacity of young entrepreneurs and Muslimpreneurs in Indonesia.
"With the various programs and initiatives that have been launched, BSI hopes to continue to encourage the growth of MSMEs as a way to realize an advanced and competitive Indonesia in the international arena," said Hery.
