KPUPR Targets IKN Airport To Be Completed By The End Of 2024

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets that the construction of the airport in the State Capital (IKN) Nusantara will be fully completed in December this year.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of PUPR Endra S. Atmawidjaja revealed that until the end of 2024 the 3.000-meter (m) long IKN Airport runway is expected to be completed.

"Now we are working on layer per layer. This is indeed a technical requirement higher than the usual road. Because of the safety factor on the runway. So, I think we are accelerating it again," said Endra at the PUPR Ministry office, Jakarta, written Wednesday, August 21. Endra emphasized that currently his party is continuing to accelerate the construction process. If there are no weather constraints, Endra is optimistic that the runway to the IKN airport terminal will be completed by the end of 2024. The Ministry of PUPR, he said, is targeting to complete the 2,200 runway at the IKN Airport until early September.

"Yes, that's right, the terminal is the same. Hopefully at the end (of), yes. But, if until early September we are chasing this (runway) for 2200 meters," he said.

For your information, IKN Airport was originally designed as a place for aircraft mobilization to be boarded by a number of state guests. So, it was originally called IKN VVIP Airport.

However, currently, KN Airport has been converted into commercial, aka it can be used by the general public.

This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) when laying the first stone or groundbreaking of PT Intiland Development Tbk at IKN, East Kalimantan, Monday, August 12.

"Anyone can go down there. For anyone. Initially, it was used for VVIP guests, but now it will be used for commercial purposes," he said.
