JAKARTA - PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (MTEL) or Mitratel built 19 telecommunication towers (power) with the concept of camouflage design in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) 1A of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN), East Kalimantan.

Mitratel Business Director Agus Winarno said the existence of the tower signifies the company's support for the construction of IKN.

Moreover, Agus said, the government only gave confidence in infrastructure development at KIPP 1A to only a few parties.

"Today we come with 19 towers, consisting of 2 macro towers and 17 micro towers. In today's position, preparations for August 17, it feels like 99 percent. We are still working on one PLN connection, which, if today it can be on, 19 towers can be present on August 17, "said Agus during the media gathering in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, NTT, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, August 6.

For the newly built tower in IKN, Mitratel has provided antennas, so that it becomes efficient for cellular operators to rent towers to use.

In addition, Mitratel also provides fiber optics and power-as-a-service so that operators do not need to prepare the equipment individually. Thus, the concept of renting the tower offered at IKN is a package of solutions which are expected to be more efficient in terms of cost tenants.

Mitratel President Director Theodorus Ardi Hartoko or Teddy explained, the camouflage design for Mitratel towers at IKN is in line with the theme mandated by the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN), which is related to forestry and environmental aspects as well as prioritizing the futuristic side.

"We had proposed a design in the form of a tree, it turned out that it was deemed inappropriate, so we made a design that was roughly in accordance with the environmental theme but futuristic," he explained.

Teddy ensured that the cost (cost) or capital expenditure (capex) to build towers in IKN had passed careful calculations. In terms of business calculations, he said, Mitratel does not hesitate to invest in IKN considering that currently a number of cellular operators have agreed to a contract as tower tenants in the next few years.

Meanwhile, in total, according to the company's records, there are 82 towers built by Mitratel throughout the IKN area as mandated by the government through OIKN.

In order to support environmental sustainability, Mitratel replaced iron content with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) for tower construction at Soekarno Hatta KM2 Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

Although fiber reinforced polymers are not as solid as iron, this material is considered more environmentally friendly considering that the production process does not produce carbon compared to conventional iron production processes that have to go through combustion.

We have not used this up to a certain height. This (the estuary using fiber reinforced polymer) is still short at about 15-20 meters. But it is quite interesting for environmental issues because the goods are printed, so they are more environmentally friendly," said Teddy.

The implementation of the fiber reinforced polymer is one of the programs that has also boosted the company's ESG score. Mitratel managed to improve its strategy in supporting sustainability issues, which was marked by an increase in the score from Sustainalytics.

Previously, Sustainalytics gave Mitratel a score of 34.5 or a high risk category. Now the score has increased to 22.4 or the medium risk category. With this achievement, the company noted, Mitratel is included in the list of 30 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) which has the best ESG score.
