Indonesia-France Initiation For The Establishment Of MRA Quality And Safety Of Fishery Products

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and the French Competent Authority initiated the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) cooperation as a scheme for equivalence of quality assurance systems to increase acceptance and competitiveness as well as market access for exports of marine and fishery commodities.

"Alhamdulillah, some time ago we started talks with Paris to start cooperation with the MRA scheme with French authorities," said Ishartini, Head of the Supervision and Control Agency for Marine and Fishery Product Quality (BPPMHKP) in a written statement, quoted Monday, July 29.

Ishartini emphasized that the existence of MRA will encourage bilateral trading facilities because it can also regulate licensing registration procedures or mechanisms for the issuance of approval numbers to export destination countries and importers to Indonesia.

"We as quality assurance marine and fishery products need to convince export destination countries that this organizational change does not affect the quality and quality of Indonesian fishery products," he said.

According to him, the current global trade trend of agricultural and fishery commodities as foodstuffs leads to the application of food safety standards that produce quality and safe products for consumption.

However, in its application of the required food safety standards, do not cause non-technical/technical barriers in the flow of trade traffic.

"So, the application of standards must actually support trade facilitation (TF)," he said.

For your information, the Indonesia-France cooperation initiation meeting in the field of quality and safety of fishery products will take place on July 19, 2024.

Indonesia was represented by the BPPMHKP KKP and France by the French Embassy in Jakarta as the representative of Ministère de l'Agriculture et de la Souverainet\'e alimentaire.

At the meeting, the French stated that SJMKHKP Indonesia was equivalent to developed countries because it had penetrated the European market (EU).
