Jokowi Says Batang Industrial Estate Can Absorb 250,000 Workers

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has just inaugurated the operation of the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KIT), Central Java today, Friday, July 26.

Jokowi said that KIT Batang actually has a total land planning of 4,300 hectares (ha) which will later accommodate industries and factories. Later this industrial area will absorb up to 250,000 workers.

"The total planning is 4300 ha which will later accommodate the industry, accommodating factories that will open up approximately 250,000 workers who can work at KIT Batang," said Jokowi during the inauguration of KIT Batang, Friday, July 26.

Jokowi said that one of the goals of establishing this industrial area is to open up as much employment opportunities as possible for the community.

So far, KIT Batang, which has an investment value of IDR 14 trillion, has been occupied by 18 factories and has absorbed at least 19,000 workers.

The Minister of Investment or Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia also conveyed the same thing.

Bahlil said that within the next 10 years, this Batang KIT could absorb up to 250,000 workers.

Especially in the near future, there will be an LG Group company from South Korea that will set up a cathode factory which is an electric vehicle battery ecosystem.

"A cathode construction will be carried out from the car battery ecosystem from the LG Group which will be built in September because the FS (feasibility study) has been completed in August," he said.
