The World Bank Appreciates Indonesia's Economic Growth Which Is Still Stable Above 5 Percent

JAKARTA - The World Bank appreciates Indonesia's economic growth which can be maintained stable above 5 percent with a low inflation rate.

This appreciation was conveyed by Managing Director of the World Bank Anna Bjerde in her meeting with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25, as conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.

"Earlier, the President received Managing Director from World Bank, Mrs. Anna, accompanied by World Bank Jakarta. During the meeting, the World Bank appreciated Indonesia's stable economic growth of more than 5 percent and with a low inflation rate," said Airlangga, as reported by Antara.

The World Bank stated that global economic growth this year is around 2.6 to 2.7 percent. And it is estimated that global economic growth next year will only range from 4.8 percent.

"However, Indonesia's growth is not low. So Indonesia's growth remains at around 5 percent. Therefore, the World Bank also appreciates the programs carried out by the government," said Airlangga.

According to him, the World Bank appreciates, among other things, poverty reduction programs and also programs related to infrastructure for agriculture, including irrigation.

"Earlier, the World Bank delegation from Lombok saw how farmers' income increased and also irrigation went well. Then also the agricultural results boosted the farmer's exchange rate," he explained.

The World Bank also appreciates the stunting prevention and reduction program carried out by Indonesia.

According to Airlangga, on that occasion President Joko Widodo said that there was a decrease in stunting rates from 37 percent to 21 percent, as well as a decrease in extreme poverty from 6.2 percent to 0.8 percent.

The President also talked about the village fund program, where village funds amounting to Rp71 trillion were used for various activities in rural areas, including to reduce stunting.

"Of course in the future, related to our plan to be included in developed income countries, several priorities have been made by the President so far, such as infrastructure, toll road, sea ports, then encouraging connectivity, it is highly appreciated, as well as downstream programs," he explained.

The President also conveyed the importance of food security and green energy going forward.
