JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) through its business unit, PT Varia Usaha Beton (VUB), contributed to the construction of the first toll road in Jambi Province, namely the Bayung Lencir - Tempino (Baleno) Toll Road. From October 2023 to June 2024, VUB has supplied 44,000 m3 ready-made concrete (ready-mixed) for the construction of the National Strategic Project (PSN).

The Baleno Toll Road is part of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) that connects Jambi Province to Palembang to Lampung. The presence of this toll road will increase connectivity, especially in Sumatra, so that it can cut the travel time from 4 to 5 hours to just 1.5 hours so that it can save more than half of the travel time.

In the construction of the Baleno Toll Road, GIS applied ready-to-use concrete with many advantages, such as easy to apply, optimal dry time, stronger bending better, and final results with maximum strength. Similar products have also been used in a number of projects including the Sigli Banda Aceh Toll Road, Balikpapan Toll Road Samarinda, Yogyakarta International Airport, and Jakarta International Stadium.

GIS Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni said, VUB took part in the construction of the Baleno Section 2 Toll Road by supplying ready-to-use concrete needs from the VUB batching plant in Bayung Lencir, Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra. From October 2023 to June 2024, the amount of concrete that has been supplied is 44,000 m3 or reaches about 95% of the total 46,000 m3 of the total concrete to be supplied.

"SIG is proud to be able to contribute to the construction of the Baleno Toll Road. Hopefully, the presence of this infrastructure can increase accessibility and connectivity between regions that will facilitate the mobility of people and goods so that it is hoped that it can accelerate the growth rate and economic equity in Indonesia," said Vita Mahreyni, in her statement, Thursday, July 25.

GIS' participation in supporting sustainable development agendas in Indonesia leads to optimizing the use of environmentally friendly building materials, such as in development projects in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) which carries the theme sustainable and smart city.

Vita Mahreyni explained that all GIS factories and supply chains are increasingly applying sustainability principles to their business and operational processes, in order to present environmentally friendly products to support sustainable development in Indonesia.

"In addition to the various portfolios for these various development needs, SIG also ensures smooth supply and timeliness of shipments from the reliability of extensive operating and distribution networks to be able to meet the needs in all regions in Indonesia," concluded Vita Mahreyni.
