Regarding New Fuel On August 17, Pertamina: Low Fuel For Sulfur

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) has opened its voice regarding the government's plan to launch a new type of fuel oil (BBM) product on August 17, 2024.

Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, when confirmed by VOI confirmed this. Fadjar said, the new fuel contains sulfur which is lower than the previous fuel product.

"The low BPM sulfur is still in process, just wait because it is still in process," he said when contacted, Wednesday, July 17.

However, Fadjar was reluctant to reveal further regarding the type of fuel that would be launched.

Regarding its circulation, Fadjar ensured that this new fuel would be launched in stages.

"It's definitely gradual," concluded Fadjar.

This is in line with the statement by the Head of the Communication, Public Information and Cooperation Service (KLIK) Bureau of Energy and Mineral Resources Agus Cahyono Adi which said the launch on August 17 was an initial pilot project test.

"If the sulfur is low, it will start, but as a pilot, 17 (August) it is a kind of kick-off that wants to start there," said Agus.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said that the launch of this new fuel was intended to reduce the pollution problems that Indonesia is still facing. Again, he said, the sulfur content in fuel that has been used by the community is still very high, namely up to 500 ppm.

"We are looking for mixing ingredients that can reduce our sulfur content, now it's still 500 ppm, if the standard is Euro V below 50, but towards that the cost is there, but we haven't finished (the study) yet," explained Arifin.
