Luhut Says Airplane Ticket Prices In The World's 2nd Most Expensive Republic Of Indonesia, Ministry Of Tourism And Creative Economy: Still In Discussion

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the ticket price for aircraft in Indonesia was the second most expensive in the world.

At the global level, the high ticket price for airlines in Indonesia is only inferior to Brazil. Meanwhile, in ASEAN, Indonesia is the country with the most expensive average ticket prices.

Related to this, the Adyatama of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Main Expert of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) Nia Niscaya, said that the problem of high aircraft ticket prices in Indonesia is still in the discussion stage. The reason, he said, the discussion involved many ministries.

"Everything is still within discussion limits, so it has not been completed. Because when talking about components why tickets are expensive, it also involves various ministries. That's why it is under the orchestration of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries," Nia said at The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno in Jakarta, Monday, July 15.

Nia added, in discussing the high price of domestic flight tickets, there were also other issues that were also discussed, such as import policies and tax issues.

"Then maybe Angkasa Pura because there are taxes that we have to pay too, (one of them) value added tax (VAT). So, all of this is still in process," he said.

He considered that until now the discussion was still continuing and asked the public to be patient in waiting for the results. "Be patient. So, we can't say much," said Nia.

Even so, said Nia, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will always be ready to promote if there will be new flights in Indonesia. According to him, this is the task of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to achieve the target of the movement of domestic tourists or foreign tourists (tourists).

"What is clear is that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will definitely promote if there are new flights, because for us when there is an increase in frequency it will make it easier to achieve the target of the movement of foreign tourists and foreign tourists," he said.

Furthermore, Nia assessed that transportation is one of the main elements in tourism activities. "Kemenparekraf is always present in the discussion of tickets involving these various ministries. At least we are definitely promoting," he added.
