JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has blocked 214 accounts indicated to be involved in online/online gambling activities until the period of June 2024.

If detailed, based on the company's data, the number of accounts related to online gambling blocked by BNI from January to December 2023 was recorded at 106 accounts. Then, from January to June 2024, there were 108 accounts that had been blocked.

"So the total number of accounts blocked at the request of Kominfo and law enforcement officials from January 2023 to June 2024 reached 214 accounts," said BNI President Director Royke Tumilaar in his statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, July 11.

According to the company, blocking accounts against hundreds of accounts related to online gambling is a tangible manifestation of BNI in supporting the government's efforts to create a healthy digital ecosystem and free from gambling practices that disturb the public.

In fighting online gambling, Royke explained that BNI implemented a special detection system to identify accounts indicated by online gambling. This system uses special parameters designed to detect suspicious transaction patterns.

By implementing this system, BNI can proactively prevent and handle transactions that violate the law while protecting customers who are not involved.

On the other hand, BNI also urges all customers to be careful in transacting and not to use banking services for online gambling activities.

Royke said the steps taken by BNI not only reflected compliance with applicable regulations but also showed the bank's commitment to maintaining reputation as a responsible financial institution.

BNI's commitment to fighting online gambling is also in line with President Joko Widodo's directives to eradicate online gambling that is troubling the public.

"Through consistent efforts to deal with sensitive issues such as online gambling, BNI seeks to create a safe and reliable banking environment for all customers," said Royke.
