Minister Of PUPR: It Takes 331 Thousand Tons Of Steel To Build IKN

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed that in infrastructure development, the capital city of Nusantara or IKN in 2023-2024 estimated construction steel needs of 331 thousand tons.

"In the development of infrastructure for the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in 2023-2024, the estimated construction steel needs of the Ministry of PUPR amounted to 331 thousand tons," said Basuki as the keynote speech represented by the Director General of Construction Development of the Ministry of PUPR Abdul Muis, in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, July 10.

In addition to construction steel, the estimated need for materials and construction equipment at IKN 2023-2024, including 1.9 million tons of cement, 325,223 tons of asphalt, 450,579 tons of precast concrete, and 2,194 units of equipment.

Based on the Attachment of the IKN Main Plan in Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the State Capital, the technical feasibility study for determining the location of IKN carried out in 2018-2019 is the basis for choosing the new IKN location.

The transfer of IKN to Kalimantan is based on several considerations of regional excellence.

First, from the location side, it is very strategic because it is in the middle of the territory of Indonesia which is passed by the Indonesian Archipelago Sea Lane (ALKI) II in the Makassar Strait which also acts as the main national and regional sea route.

Second, IKN locations have relatively complete infrastructure, namely airports, ports, and good toll roads, as well as the availability of other infrastructure, such as adequate energy and drinking water networks.

Third, the location of IKN is close to two developed supporting cities, namely Balikpapan City and Samarinda City. Fourth, the availability of land controlled by the government is very adequate for the development of lKN. Fifth, minimal risk of natural disasters.

The transfer of IKN to Kalimantan is in line with the vision of the birth of a new economic 'gravity center' in the midst of the archipelago.

In addition, IKN planning was also prepared based on recommendations from the results of the Rapid Assessment Strategic Environment Studies (KLHS) compiled by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2019, and deepened in the KLHS Masterplan IKN study compiled by the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency in 2020.

The selected location is planned to provide broad opportunities for areas outside Java to develop and contribute to equitable development.
