JAKARTA - Chief Executive of the Behavior Supervisory of Financial, Education, and Consumer Protection Business Actors, OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi, appealed to the public to be extra careful in providing personal data.

This is in response to news that has gone viral on social media regarding data misuse allegedly committed by a company HRD.

"We also urge the public to be very extra careful in providing personal data, especially such as NIK, KTP, face photos, especially if they have been asked to record, provide facial photos and so on," said Friderica or who is familiarly called Kiki during a press conference at the OJK Board of Commissioners' Meeting (RDK) in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 9.

He admitted that cases of data misuse for illegal account opening or online loans (pinjol) that were detrimental to consumers were still rampant.

Many consumers do not know that their data is being used by irresponsible parties.

In this case, Kiki emphasized that the OJK has regulated the security and confidentiality of consumer data in OJK Regulation (POJK) Number 22 of 2023.

This regulation was prepared by considering Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP).

The POJK prohibits Financial Services Business Actors (PUJK) from providing consumer data to other parties or using consumer personal data that has ended the use of PUJK services.

"In addition, we also prohibit PUJK through the POJK to require consumers to agree to provide consumer personal data as a condition, for example opening an account," said Kiki.

According to him, this rule strictly regulates how PUJK must act along with various sanctions against these violations.

Furthermore, Kiki added that based on the inspection of the consumer protection team, consumer data is often used for data exchange in marketing and commercial purposes.

Several cases have been investigated by the OJK and submitted to the police because there is a criminal element in it.

"We appeal to the whole community to be extra careful in sharing personal data information. Hopefully all are protected by education and also a better understanding," he said.
