Constrained By Heavy Rain, New VVIP IKN Airport Progress Reached 60 Percent

JAKARTA - Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Danis Sumadilaga revealed that currently the construction of the VVIP Airport runway in the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) continues to progress.

However, there is one obstacle in the construction of the project.

Da said the weather problem had hampered because the IKN area was being hit by heavy rains recently.

"We are holding a modification of the weather from yesterday. The time of the airport was before paving or during the asphalting process it should not be disturbed by rain. (That's why) we continue to try to modify the weather so that it is not disturbed," he said.

Danis said that his party has two targets for the completion of the VVIP airport at IKN.

First, the completion of the runway completely until the end of 2024 which has reached 40 percent.

Then the second target is functional 2,200 meters (m) in order to welcome the Indonesian Independence Day at IKN, which is around 60 percent progress.

"The target until the end of the new year is around 40 percent, but until August (2024) it has been more than 60 percent, which is 2,200 m," said Danis when met at his office, Friday, July 5.

Danis ensured that the Ministry of PUPR would continue to monitor the progress of the VVIP Airport runway construction at IKN.

The reason is, every day his party receives reports from his team in the field about weather conditions at IKN so that the progress of the VVIP Airport construction is not hampered.

Even so, when confirmed about the location and runway for flying taxi technology, Danis admitted that he could not answer this.

According to him, there are no plans to build a runway for flying taxis at IKN.

"I don't know, there are no plans yet if the (runway for) flying taxis," he concluded.
