BPS Reveals June 2024 There Was A Deflation Of 0.08 Percent, This Is The Trigger

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a deflation in June 2024 of 0.08 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (mtm).

Acting Main Secretary of BPS Imam Machdi said that deflation in June 2024 was deeper than in May 2024 and was the second deflation in 2024.

"In June 2024 there was a deflation of 0.08 percent on a monthly basis or there was a decrease in the consumer price index from 106.37 in May 2024 to 106.38 in June 2024," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, July 1.

Imam said that deflation in June 2024 was triggered by inflation in the food, beverage and tobacco expenditure group.

The group in June 2024 recorded a deflation of 0.49 percent (mom) with a deflation of 0.14 percent.

Meanwhile, the main commodities contributing to deflation were shallots with a share of 0.09 percent, tomatoes with a deflation of 0.07 percent, and broiler meat with a deflation of 0.05 percent.

Iman said that there were other commodities that contributed to inflation, including cayenne pepper and red chilies with 0.02 percent each.

Then gold jewelry and potatoes, cucumber, engine kretek cigarettes, air transportation rates, fresh fish and powdered coffee with 0.01 percent of inflation each.

"A total of 26 out of 38 provinces in Indonesia experienced deflation. While the other 12 experienced inflation. The deepest deflation of 1.11 percent occurred in South Papua, while the highest inflation occurred in mountainous Papua at 2.11 percent," he said.

Meanwhile, on an annual basis or year on year (yoy) inflation in June 2024 was 2.51 percent or sloping from annual inflation in May 2024 of 2.84 percent.

Meanwhile, inflation in the calendar year or year to date (ytd) is 1.07 percent.
