Hutama Karya Calls Weakening Of Rupiah Disrupts Construction Material Prices

The weakening of the rupiah exchange rate accompanied by a significant strengthening of the US dollar has an impact on the construction services sector.

The reason is, the weakening of the rupiah can affect the cost of imported raw materials used in the construction sector.

Quoting Bloomberg, the rupiah exchange rate on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the rupiah exchange rate on the spot market closed down 0.23 percent at the level of Rp. 16,413 per US dollar.

Similarly, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed down 0.34 percent to a price level of IDR 16,435 per US dollar.

This was acknowledged by BUMN Karya, PT Hutama Karya (Persero).

Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Adjib Al Hakim said the weakening of the rupiah had an impact on the price of construction materials.

"The weakening of the rupiah can have an impact on the price of construction materials that affect the completion of the Hutama Karya project," said Adjib to VOI, Thursday, June 27.

Adjib said, with this impact, it is hoped that an adjustment can be made to the value of the contract and optimization of the use of construction materials.

"Especially for projects that are running until the end of this year," he said.

He ensured that the completion of Hutama Karya's projects was still on target schedule. This means that Hutama Karya is optimistic that the completion target will not be delayed.

"We will adjust the completion of the project (Hutama Karya) according to the set time," he added.
