Bulog Boss Ensures Acquisition Of Cambodian Rice Companies Does Not Disrupt Domestic Production

JAKARTA - President Director of Perum Bulog Bayu Krisnamurthi ensured that the planned acquisition of a rice company from Cambodia would not interfere with domestic rice production. In particular, the mining industry is small.

Bayu explained that the acquisition was a step by the government to secure rice stocks if Indonesia needed imports.

However, Bayu continued, if Indonesia does not need additional rice, it will be sold to the international auction market.

"Why should we worry? It means that if I have rice or Bulog has rice in Cambodia, if we need it, we take it. If we don't need it, we'll just trade in international trading," he said in Jakarta, written Friday, June 21.

In addition, Bayu said the reason for this aquatic plan was aimed at preventing Indonesia from looking for rice producing countries. Considering that many countries think they are closing rice exports.

"We make it possible to have an agent open there. Then when we can run well, look at each other's situation, what if we buy them in mills, mill them up like that and so on. So this is a step to make sure we can guarantee more supply if we need to," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo said that Indonesia's assessment of acquiring rice companies in Cambodia was a business transaction without affecting national food stocks.

"Number 1 must be a priority for domestic production, of course," said Arief Prasetyo after attending the National Working Meeting (Rakornas) on Inflation Control at the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 14.

He said business transactions that occur between one company to another cross-border companies are commonly carried out by various countries.

"That's done by China, Malaysia, has a bench in Australia, in China, it's a cross boarder for several countries that are not possible to do in their country," he said.

However, Arief ensured that the exploration of the acquisition of rice companies with Cambodia was part of the business to business, with a priority scale of domestic production.

Arief confirmed that the fulfillment of domestic rice stocks is a top priority, based on various government policies in increasing national food production.

"Now is the number one domestic production, the evidence is that there are 20 thousand pumps, reservoirs, Jalan Usaha Tani, fertilizers from 4.7 to 9.5 million tons, reservoirs built 61 units, primary channels, secondary, tertiary were built, printed rice fields, seeds. That means we encourage domestic production," he said.
