This Is The KKP's Step To Maintain The Sustainability Of Tuna Fisheries

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has prepared a number of upstream strategies in managing tuna fisheries to boost these commodities in the global market.

This strategy is prepared to maintain the sustainability of one of Indonesia's leading commodities so that the sustainability of this fishing business can continue.

"So how do we guarantee that there are still tuna resources to improve welfare and contribute to the country through focusing on sustainability," said KKP Fish Resources Management Director Ridwan Mulyana at the Press Conference: Triggering Hulu Downstream Indonesian Tuna Fisheries Business in Jakarta, Thursday, June 20.

One of the strategies that have been carried out is measurable fishing (PIT), a program to prepare good and wise fishing management.

"This means that we align the economic and ecological aspects so that this tuna catch does not threaten environmental resources, be it water, fish habitat and habitat in the sea other than fisheries. There are mangrove reefs and so on," he said.

Another effort is the preparation of a fishery management plan (RPP) document that was mutually agreed upon between stakeholders. The RPP document aims to manage tuna which focuses on fish sizes to the fishing process.

Data improvement is also considered to be important in sustainable tuna governance. This is because data improvement is needed by cooperating with other ministries/agencies, such as BRIN to universities.

The KKP also strengthens diplomacy with neighboring countries bordering Indonesia, because tuna is a fish that is in the high seas. So, it is hoped that Indonesia can access tuna fishing to the maximum.

"So, we must actively increase diplomacy, cooperation and so on in order to get more rights to get access to the use of tuna fisheries," he added.
