JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo assessed that the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar was very stable and became one of the currency with the best exchange rate in the world.
Perry's statement was in response to the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar transacted between banks in Jakarta on Friday morning, down 30 points or 0.18 percent to Rp16,300 per US dollar.
"It's stable. Dollars are stable. That's one of the best in the world. Our rupiah is very stable, one of the best in the world," Perry said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 14.
Perry said the depreciation of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar was still very low when compared to other countries, such as won (South Korea), peso (Philippine), baht (Thailand), and yen (Japan).
"(Rupiah) Indonesia is very low and when compared to other countries it is very, lower than other countries. Our depreciation is the lowest and most stable," said Perry.
According to Perry, the depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar is still in a low position because Bank Indonesia also continues to take steps to stabilize the exchange rate.
A number of efforts were made, namely intervention, then withdrawal of foreign portfolios, such as stocks and bonds into the country. "Everything is going well, stable and has been appreciated by the President," said Perry.
