BSD, Batam And Morowali Become New SEZs, AHY Makes Sure There Are No Land Problems

JAKARTA - Minister of ATR/BPN Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono ensured that there was no problem of release for the development of three new special economic zones (SEZs), namely BSD in Tangerang, Batam in the Riau Islands and Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

"So in terms of spatial planning, we must also ensure that there are no problems in the future, the land must be clean and clear, because we want to provide legal certainty on land rights," he said when met at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 29.

According to Agus, the clarity of the land rights needs to be prioritized because it will provide legal certainty for investors who are present in the three new SEZs later.

"This also provides confidence for our investors to invest their capital here," he explained.

Furthermore, Agus emphasized that ATR/BPN fully supports the determination of a new SEZ because it has the potential to encourage the local economy and create jobs.

"In particular, I convey that in principle, we want to support every development that has indeed presented economic growth, creates jobs, mobilizes local economies regardless of their fields," he said.

Agus said that the BSD and Batam SEZs are the government's concern to develop and focus on the health sector.

Especially for the Batam SEZ, continued Agus, it is hoped that with the SEZ, the public will be expected to be able to access affordable health facilities. So that they no longer choose to seek treatment in neighboring countries.

"Hopefully, with this SEZ, if it is successful, we can build an area that is also affordable, meaning that it is affordable in terms of its cost needs for the community to seek good treatment there, then later everyone can be present in Batam," said Agus.

Meanwhile, SEZ Morowali, continued Agus, will focus on supporting downstream programs, improving the regional economy, including opening up wider employment opportunities.

"Hopefully not only moving the local economy but also significantly will contribute to the national economy," he explained.
